Deal or No Deal - 25th-30th June

OK, time for this week's DOND results.

Monday 25th: Li Ping
Winnings: £1,553
Dealt at: 2-box
Highest offer: £1,553 (2-box)
Box value: £5,000

Throughout the 18 shows prior to her own, Li Ping had only ever had one blue in her box. Her tendency to pick reds passed through to her own game, where she ripped out all the big sums, leaving her with £5,000 as the highest sum left at 11-box, and the only red left at 8-box! Naturally, she had it in her box, but taking a consolation sum in a game that had been going nowhere for most of the time was understandable.

Tuesday 26th: Colin
Winnings: £3,000
Dealt at: 5-box
Highest offer: £9,250 (14-box)
Box value: £1,000

Nice pleasant game. Colin was very lucky to get a respectable offer at 5-box given that £20,000 was the only significant sum left. Other players have been offered less than £1,000 with a configuration like his. The deal was probably the right decision for him, and it turned out to be the right one for the game as well.

Wednesday 27th: Mariyam
Winnings: 1p
Opened the box
Highest offer: £60,000 (3-box extra offer)
Box value: 1p

Prior to Wednesday's game, the Banker hinted at an epic classic on Twitter, and that's certainly what we got. Mariyam reached 5-box with the £250,000, £50,000, £20,000, £100 and 1p. The Banker offered £37,000, which would be enough for most of us on the forum, but Mariyam turned it down. After the £20,000 and the £100 went, the Banker snuck in an extra offer of £60,000. Mariyam bravely/recklessly (delete as applicable to your views) turned it down, only for the £250,000 to go in the final box. Faced with 1p or £50,000, the Banker offered her £19,000, which she turned down. She may have won 1p, but she certainly gave us a thrilling game, one of the best of the month, and will be remembered for that for a long time, it would appear.

Thursday 28th: Darren
Winnings: £23,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £40,000 (5-box)
Box value: £1
Bit more of a quiet game this time, but Darren was a nice enough guy who made a sensible 8-box call with just the £250,000 and £75,000 higher. Alas, both stayed to 5-box, and the offer would've been £40,000. The £250,000 went in the final round, leaving £75,000 and £1, which would've led to an offer of £26,000 (or, the Governer, as that sum is known as). Pleasingly, the £1 was in his box, giving a positive end to a positive game.

Friday 29th: Helen
Winnings: £33,000
Dealt at: 5-box
Highest offer: £33,000 (5-box)
Box value: £100
Missed this one, as I was out on Friday sitting my theory test (which I passed! Yay!). Helen certainly played a great game though. £33,000 was a very decent offer seeing as only the £250,000 and £50,000 were higher. She dealt, and her decision was immediately vindicated when the two big sums went in the final round. Great result to finish the working week.

Saturday 30th: Dave
Winnings: £15,000
Dealt at: 5-box
Highest offer: £85,000 (2-box)
Box value: £75,000

This week's weekend show went out on Saturday rather than Sunday; the Banker claims this was to see if we were paying attention, but a more plausible explanation is that 'T4: On The Beach' would be on Channel 4 for most of this afternoon (it's on now as I'm typing this).
Dave was a nice enough chap, but the Banker quickly figured out he was going to a cautious player, and this was reflected in his offers. £15,000 at 5-box was rather low with £20,000, £75,000 and £100,000 all higher. However, it was enough for Dave to deal. Alas, the best possible final round saw £75,000 and £100,000 stay to the end. An unlucky game really.

Overall, not a bad week, but we've seen better this year. Still no signs of a new series of University Challenge; normally, the new series starts after Wimbledon, but the schedules do not seem to indicate this. It's possible the new series is being held back until after the Olympics, in order to avoid the run being halted for a couple of weeks. We will see; I will report back here if I uncover any news.
