Seasons greetings friends! Obviously, University Challenge is now on its usual festive break, and we have two weeks of Christmas specials to look forward to. We had our first of those tonight, and a fuller review will come on Saturday/Sunday along with the rest of the first week.
But Only Connect and Mastermind are continuing as usual this week and next, and I did say I would be covering all three Quizzy Mondays shows all year round, so here's my usual potted reviews of both...
Only Connect continued with its
second qualifier match, with the Sliders playing the Puzzle Hunters. After a
rather tricky first round, the teams were tied at 2-each, before the Puzzle
Hunters drew a blank in the second round, allowing the Sliders to open up a 6-2
lead. This increased to 13-4 after the walls, and maintained it throughout
Missing Vowels, the highlight of which was my Dad saying ‘SAINT PAUL’S
CATHEDRAL’ as soon as ‘Buildings with a dome’ came up as a category and that
turning out to be the first clue(!), for a win of 20-11.
Mastermind, meanwhile, was won by
Hazel Humphrys, thanks to a spectacular general knowledge round that saw her
rise from six points to 22, five clear of the nearest other contenders, both of
whom were ahead of her at half time and who both ended on 17.
I'll be doing one of these next Monday as well.
