Deal or No Deal - 9th-15th July

Well, it's been a good week for DOND, with three 'Banker Spankings', and one of the highest weekly totals of the year.

Monday 9th: Fred
Winnings: £9,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £9,000 (8-box)
Box value: £10

I wasn't too sure about Fred when he first appeared about a month ago, but he subsequently proved nowhere near as annoying as I feared he might be. And, when called out, he proved he was more than capable of being serious, enthralling everyone with stories of his community work, for which he is well respected.
His deal was slightly cautious, but definitely the right decision for him. And the proveout reflected that, and justified it. A nice feel-good game to start the week, though it gave no indication of what was to come!

Tuesday 10th: Claire
Winnings: £22,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £115,000 (2-box)
Box value: £35,000

Claire's game featured a sub-plot about the Banker kidnapping Roderick (a teddy bear belonging to the school where Claire works), and threatening to destroy him unless Claire dealt the first offer. She didn't, and he was, if you know what I mean. Claire did recover to a respectable 8-box offer that she took; alas, the proveout wasn't as nice to her as it was to Fred, and she left a final two of £35,000 and the £250,000. Luckily, she only had the £35,000 in her box, so not as bad as it could have been. And, after the show, the Banker gave Roderick back to her intact!

Wednesday 11th: Lee
Winnings: £10,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £20,000 (5-box)
Box value: £35,000

I missed this one, and followed it online on the forum. Can't say I saw much of Lee on the wings, so it was interesting to see how he'd handle the game. His deal was slightly on the cautious side, but not totally foolish. At 2-box, on a final two of £35,000 and £500, the Banker gave him the chance to give back the £10,000, and win his box sum. Lee turned this down, only for the £35,000 to be in his box.

Thursday 12th: Jodi
Winnings: £20,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £20,000 (8-box)
Box value: £15,000

Jodi was a respectable young lady, who had made an impact with a huge amount of charity work. The Banker hates charity, and, thus, he hated Jodi. Imagine his fury, therefore, when Jodi dealt £20,000 with the £250,000 and two more of the Power 5 in play, and then removed all three, resulting in a 'Banker Spanking'! Jodi's win also took the show's overall payout to just over £30,000,000!

Friday 13th: Pauline
Winnings: £31,000
Dealt at: 5-box
Highest offer: £168,000 (2-box)
Box value: £250,000

If Jodi's game took the show's overall payout past £30,000,000, this was a great example of why it isn't double that! Pauline was a nice enough lady, and, as was pointed out on the forum, deserves credit for being the only player this week to make it beyond 8-box! She reached 5-box with £100,000 and the £250,000 backed up by £35,000 and two blues. The Banker offered £31,000, which would be low enough for even the most cautious of forum members to gamble. Despite having feelings about her box (its number being her grandson's birthday), Pauline dealt. This turned out to be a disastrous decision, as the best possible final round left £100,000 and the £250,000 on the board!
(Note that Pauline's game was the biggest win of the week, but it has gone down the worst! I wonder why.)

Sunday 15th: James
Winnings: £26,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £26,000 (8-box)
Box value: £20,000

Poor James. Noel was uncontrollable throughout the game, constantly speculating whether the final two would be the £250,000 and £100,000 again. The offers were certainly generous, and, despite a lot of talk from Noel about the two big sums staying to the end again, James sensibly dealt £26,000, or the Governor as it is known, at 8-box. I cheered loudly when he dealt, as I feared he would play on solely because of Noel's spiel. And I cheered again when he took both big sums out in the proveout, resulting in the third 'Banker Spanking' of the week! Great game to finish a spectacular week for the show!
